3rd April 2010 – Key West

Today's the day we are heading down to Key West. Zoe rented a villa called Secret Villa on Three School Lane and we are eager to set off on this new adventure. http://www.findrentals.com/23186.html

First we headed up to Fort Lauderdale to have lunch with Denis, Trudy and Leah. Congrats on your new bundle of joy Truds and Den, she really is squinchy and cute. By the time we see Miss ( Charlie, Charlotte, Che Che,) again she will be walking and talking.

Then we set off to Key West. Well the first calamity we encountered was half way to our destination I realize that our travel documents and money that we were so careful to put in the safe was guess what still there. Very safe and sound but NOT with us. We arranged to have the documents collected and we would get them on the way home. Zoe's reaction was "Well at least we got that one out of the way here instead of in some " obscure country".

On the way we stopped at Robbie's Marina to feed the tarpon. These fish are enormous. We bought a bucket of dead fish to feed them but you had to watch out for those greedy pelicans. Lily had a run in with a pelican that she swerved away from and almost fell into the sea. Then Lils got soaking wet when the tarpon jumped out of the sea and splashed salt water all over her. Great experience. Thanks Clo!

The drive down was uneventful. We saw some huge lizards (I think they were iguanas), some deer and a beautiful sunset.

We arrived at Secret Villa around 10.30pm, after we had stopped for dinner and groceries. The house was lovely. Very secluded with its own swimming pool. It had 2 bedrooms upstairs, 1 bedroom downstairs and a huge living room with a pull out sofa. Perfect. We could ask for nothing more. We blew up the mattress for Chris, made the sofa bed for Lily and Ben and went to sleep. Perfect end to a perfect day.
